Verstärker II uses a typical gamer mouse whose black and high-tech design reminds of a weapon. The mouse is placed on a black pedestal with sharp and skewed edges. With the mouse, a motor-driven zoetrope is controlled which shows a historic shooting scene from the 1930 movie “All Quiet on the Western Front”. At its core, the work is based on linking a contemporary interface to a 18th century apparatus. Haptics and design of the interface are highlighted by the pedestal. Participants are baited by this presentation and then realize how using the interfaces reduces the interaction to absurdity.
