How do I build a low-tech and low-budget synthesizer?
Experience in an elementary and exciting way the basics of synthetic sound generation with an introduction to the artistic application of electronic circuits!
- Oscillator – building a simple oscillating circuit from three components
- LFO – refinement of the sound with a second oscillating circuit

I am currently developing a minimal, low-cost synthesizer based on the CD40106BE chip. As part of this project, I am designing an experimental circuit board featuring a keyboard and several rotary controls. The modular architecture — with components connected via patch cables — promises rich learning experiences: one can begin by building a single oscillator, then blend in a second, and gradually integrate the keyboard, until a small, resilient, and yet entirely transparent electronic musical instrument emerges.
